Decorating for the 4th

Oh how I love my country!
It brings so much joy to live here.

How do I know this?
Dana and I served a humanitarian mission in Ethiopia, and
lived in country for two years. How I missed
this beautiful country and all that we really take for granted.

Nothing brings a bigger smile to me than an American Flag
flying boldly and happily!

Today I use our flag in so many different ways.
While we were in Africa, we had our kids bring us
an American flag. It hung on the door in the living
room every day after it arrived. I missed the
red, white, and blue so very much!

The colors come out in my decorating in every room.
I used anything and everything I can find in my house
with these colors. Of course, I have purchased several items
just for my summer decorating.

You can use all sorts of dishes with any type of red, or white, or blue.
I have a set of dished that are white and blue that my brother
bought for me while he served in the Air Force in Thailand,
they are a standard to decorate with in July!

These dishes on the top row are French Country, while the middle
dish is made in England and has all the colors, red, white, and blue on them.
The bottom row square dishes are from Mexico, televeria pottery.
Such a fun way to intertwine dishes I have purchased from other countries
to fit in the favorite red, white, and blue, of the United States of America.

I made my flag pillows from craft scarfs from a craft store,
then matched them with grey buffalo plaid and star pillows that
I actually bought at an after Christmas sale.

My Americana dish is from Poland, purchased in a Polish
pottery store, I love to intertwine everything with old
silver that I have collected over the years from second hand
stores. The white American flag cans with starred tops I have
had for over 25 years. I'm not even sure where they came from!
The scarf I used was my mothers. I found it in a drawer of
all of her scarfs.

The sun room couch.
One of my favorite places to land in the evenings!

The kitchen island table place settings that I keep out
all month long.

A skinny American flag drapes the kitchen table with fresh flowers and silver.

The outside of the house and America is here!

I always put out our "Home of the Brave" sign.
Currently we have a son deployed, and 2 sons serving, the other
son was deployed all last year.
They are brave, and we are so proud of them!

The front door before I found magnolia leaves to add to the wreath.

There you have it!

Decorating for the 4th.
America, our favorite country.
And...
The home of the brave!
