Bone China Chandelier

A treasure, a box of bone china pieces, a chandelier!

What a great find!

I found this treasure of bone china pieces after my mother passed away.
I asked dad if he minded if I took this and did something
with it.  Sure he said.  We brought it home, at the time I was
quite busy, it ended up in the closet under the stairs and  it stayed
there for a few years.
I decided to clean out the closet one day and found these pieces.

Oh, seriously what are they?
Then I remembered a letter I received from my mother after
we were newly married, and she said my grandmother "Oma" in Germany
had sent her a letter saying that she was sending a chandelier
for my wedding gift.

I received a candle holder that my mother said was from Oma, and I
thought mmm, maybe I misunderstood.  Now I realize that the
chandelier arrived broken and my mom gave me one of her candle
holders from Germany for the gift from my Oma.

My grandmother lived in Bavaria and frequently shopped the
stores and factory stores in the area.  She lived and died in Munich after
the war.  I'm not exactly sure where this
chandelier came from or even what china company it
comes from.  The pieces that we have don't have
any markings.  But, I would love to know! If anyone out there
has an answer to this.
It looks like Dresden, but I really cannot say.
There is a room in the Herren Chemise Castle where the items
in the room are all made of china, was this chandelier
from the same company?  They are very close
to each other where my grandmother lived and this castle.

Dana and I brought these pieces out of the plastic box and laid them
out trying to figure out how we could make this into a
usable chandelier.  We put our heads together and started to
put the pieces together, to see if we could create something
from all these pieces.

Here they are.
One thing we learned was the pieces were wired to be used in Europe.
That made it a little harder.  So first Dana had to rewire all of the
arms and put new sockets in them so we could
use American lights in them.
That was step one.

We then found a round piece of wood at a craft store to put the
arms in so we can have something to secure the arms in
so the pieces could hang like a chandelier.

We also had to purchase a bar to go up the middle that would hold it all
together.

This brought us to the next step.
Putting all the pieces together and creating a light to hang
in the kitchen.

Today, this chandelier hangs above the kitchen sink.

An odd place really, but I really wanted to see it everyday and use
it everyday.  It is a special treasure for sure.
All these pieces becoming an incredible heirloom for
my children one day.  But one for me right now.

I love this treasure.
I love this heirloom.
What an amazing find.

How lucky I am to have this, and to have a husband that can see
how things work to be able to make this a
fabulous treasure work from the past.

Lots of little pieces of china into a chandelier.

Yes!

Such a fun thing to share with you.
