Outdoor Fall Fun
Oh, how we love our falls!
I sometimes wonder if I could live in an "Indian Summer"
all year long. We have had an amazing fall this year,
the fall days full of beautiful "Indian Summer" weather.
The sunshine is incredible, and the temperature perfect.
The garden continues to produce, even though the nights are
a bit chilly, and the days are so warm.
These are the days that I look forward to all year long.
Sweaters aren't ready to come out yet, but the fall leaves
up in the mountains are changing, and the regular
green leaves stay normal down in our yard away from the
mountains. Yes, this is one of my favorite seasons of the year.
I really wasn't ready for summer to end this year. I could have used
another month or two. Hard even for me to believe as the fall
came closer in days, September was already here, and I was still
wanting to work in the yard and finish my tasks for the summer.
It didn't quite pan out that way. We went to Montana to visit our kids
in September, and when we drove back, the trees were changing
and I was still wanting summer to wang. It didn't, and I tried talking
myself into loving fall as we passed by the most beautiful fall
mountain foliage ever. I did better by the time we arrived home, but
I was still wanting summer to linger.
While we were gone, the nights were so cold that our kids here
had to cover all the garden and tomato's to save them from frost.
Now that is fall. But as we spent the rest of September and into
October, the "Indian Summer" set in and I loved every minute
of the time I was given to enjoy the end of summer and the cooler
evenings of fall.
Our garden gave us the most incredible pumpkins. I plan an
entire area of the garden just for the pumpkin harvest. I so love
decorating with pumpkins.
We struggled with some kind of bug, that ate up 2 of my pumpkin
plants, thus, bringing my pumpkin count down. But as you can
see we had enough, and it turned out beautiful. This was the first
thing I did after arriving home from Montana. The next day
was spent picking pumpkins and putting them around the front door
and the back door. The flowers are still in bloom as I take these
pictures, but tomorrow or at least by the end of this week the
temperature will have taken these masterpiece arrangements,
and there will only be orange pumpkins and kale left. A few days
after that it is supposed to hit 12 degrees and none of these
items will be left. The temperature will be in charge, and the
outdoors will be barren.
So just for today, we will enjoy the end of fall, soaking
in the oranges and tans of fall, the greens of the different
kale I love so much, and the end of the flowers.
The purple and orange wreath on the door is for Halloween.
It is still October as I write this so I have taken pictures of the
door with it on, but the new fall wreath is my
favorite, and it is next up in the photos.
Here the fall wreath shines. I purchased the wreath base,
a magnolia wreath at Coming Home in Salt Lake City.
I also purchased the orangey, fall colored acorns in the wreath
there as well. I added the ribbons. They had them so cute
in their store. If you are close to this area, it is a wonderful
place to purchase home decor. They have a corner on the
market as to great home decor and small pieces of furniture.
I am in love!
My princess pumpkins are always my favorite.
These were grown from seeds I saved from the year before.
They have the best bumps on them!
I found some flowering kale at the local greenhouse this year.
Oh, did this ever make me happy.
I have wanted these planters to look like this forever,
and this year they did!
Back to the Halloween wreath on the front door.
Fall wreath.
This is the side of our garage, there is a large parking space
between the main house and the garage. This year we had a huge
storm that took out part of our poplar tree, and became a danger
to the house and yard. We had it cut down, and we stacked
the wood under the windows and planters on the side of the
garage. This is how they store the wood at the homes in Germany.
I have always loved this look, and we decided to store
this wood here this year. New look, new love for us.
The back door seems real plain now that I look at the pictures.
I used our corn stalks from the garden, and the grass from
our pond. Pumpkins from the garden.
It is inviting for sure.
Have a great fall day.
Enjoy the season, because I am.
I'm now ready to put on my favorite sweater,
make a cup of hot chocolate, and
sit in the sunroom on the lounge chairs
and enjoy the fall colors.
Ciao,
Robin
